  1. The water temperature should be no more than 36-37 degrees. It is advisable to rinse your hair with boiled water, so you need to prepare it in advance.
  2. Before applying detergent, it is very important to comb your hair and thoroughly moisten it with water.
  3. During washing baby hair It is necessary to clean the scalp only, without touching and in no case rubbing the hair lengthwise.
  4. The washing technique should be soft and gentle. It is important to apply and distribute the detergent using gentle circular movements with your fingertips for 3-4 minutes.
  5. Children's scalp does not require re-application of shampoo.
  6. Don’t forget to finish the hair washing procedure with a rinse made from herbal infusion or boiled water acidified with lemon juice (1/2 tsp per 1 liter of water). If it is recommended to rinse an adult scalp with cool water, then this is not permissible for a child’s scalp! Dilated capillaries of the scalp will not react to the cold in the best way.
  7. After washing and rinsing, hair should be lightly blotted with a towel. They should dry on their own. Never comb wet hair!
  8. Use a special baby hair shampoo no more than once a week! And in between, use decoctions and infusions of herbs for washing.
  9. Children's skin needs to be cleansed regularly, preferably every day!

What shampoo to wash your child's hair with?

This is perhaps one of those questions that every mother puzzles over. The first thing you should pay attention to is the softness of the shampoo. And on its softness, i.e. pH neutrality, as indicated by the phrase “does not sting the eyes.” The pH of the scalp of a child from 0 to 10 years is close to neutral: about 6.5. It is this indicator of acid-base balance that does not irritate the mucous membrane of the eye.

It’s even better if this shampoo is designed to wash not only the scalp, but also the body. In Russia, according to regulatory documents, what baby shampoo is is not defined, and division by age is not provided. Therefore, manufacturers themselves indicate at what age their product can be used. Please note that if the age is not indicated, then this shampoo can only be used after reaching 3 years of age.

Let's figure out what should be in baby shampoo and what should not be in it using examples of some shampoos. I have tried

  • BabyLine (Germany),
  • SANOSAN for babies (Germany),
  • Baby foam shampoo (Styx, Austria).
  • hydrophilic baby chamomile bath oil Original ATOC (Czech Republic)

Children's hair shampoo BabyLine (Germany) dried out my scalp after a year of use. Of the advantages, I found only two: after it, the hair remained soft and smelled very tasty of chamomile. However, it is far from ideal.

Price about 190 rub.

Of the undesirable components it contains:

  • synthetic fragrance;
  • methylparaben and propylparaben (in high-quality shampoos this component is replaced by lactic and plant enzymes, vitamins).

SANOSAN shampoo for babies (Germany) contains avocado oil. The inclusion helped restore my daughter’s scalp after using BabyLine shampoo. Good quality cosmetics always use vegetable oils, while cheap ones use mineral oils.

Price about 150 rub.

The softest version of the surfactant was chosen as the washing component. In general, the shampoo is not bad, it doesn’t tangle the hair and keeps it soft. But its composition is not perfect either:

  • synthetic fragrance;
  • 5 types of parabens.

Baby foam shampoo (Styx, Austria) was chosen by me due to the fact that, in my opinion, the composition of SANOSAN for babies is overloaded. We are quite satisfied with the foam shampoo; we have been using it for about a year. It is used economically due to its very thick consistency. The smell is pleasantly sweet with notes of coconut, lavender and chamomile. Doesn't tangle hair, cleans very well. Sold only in pharmacies or specialized stores selling Styx cosmetics.

Price about 500 rub.

Here is the composition of the foam shampoo:

  • water;
  • sodium laureth sulfate (SLES). This is the active surface cleaning ingredient of shampoo. It does not penetrate the dermis and, accordingly, does not enter the bloodstream. The only point is that shampoos containing surface surfactants must be thoroughly washed off the scalp;
  • cocamidopropyl betaine (obtained from fatty acids of coconut oil, mild cleanser, prevents electrification of hair, reduces irritation of SLES, conditioning agent);
  • sodium chloride (increases the viscosity of the drug, is used externally in medicine for inflammation, treatment of ulcers and abscesses);
  • glycerol;
  • coconut glycoside (a soft foaming substance obtained from dried coconut meat);
  • bisabolol (derived from chamomile and lavender essential oils, relieves inflammation and irritation);
  • sodium hydroxide (this is an alkali that normalizes the pH of the shampoo to neutral. Detergent);
  • farnesol (this is a mild component of some essential oils, it naturally controls the secretion of the skin, softening and relaxing it. It is a natural preservative and aroma fixative).

But there are times when washing your child's hair frequently It is necessary to use a delicate detergent that does not contain surfactants. Then I would recommend hydrophilic baby chamomile bath oil Original ATOC (Czech Republic). It, like the previous one, is intended for washing hair and body. When bathing a child using ATOC hydrophilic oil, you should not use other detergents. This will reduce its effectiveness.

Price about 800 rub.

The composition looks like this:

  • essential oils of blue chamomile, yarrow and yellow chamomile;
  • vegetable oils: jojoba, soybean and almond;
  • soy lecithin.

By caring for children's hair, you not only make it strong and beautiful, but also instill in your child a caring attitude towards himself. And the right shampoo will help solve the task of cleansing, which is very important for children’s skin. Pay attention to the composition of the detergents you choose. And remember that purchasing a product at a pharmacy does not guarantee its safety!

    Dear ladies, share your experience on how to wash a baby’s hair. We love to swim, but how to wash our hair is a wild cry. Shampoo without tears, I demonstrate the process on myself, it pours water on me, but doesn’t let it on myself. Somewhere I saw circles with a hole that they put on the head and the hair on top remains. Who knows where it is, we are in Moscow. Thank you

      It was like that with my girlfriend. At first there were screams, persuasion, and stories about bugs in the hair did not help. Then I got tired of it and did the following. My girl was playing in the bathroom with a bright shampoo bottle. And I offered her to pour water on her doll’s head from a bottle. The daughter was delighted, we moved on to watering not only the doll, but also her. First the arms, legs, stomach, and then the head. From this day on, no screams are heard while washing our hair, and we already wash our hair with the help of a shower. And the offer to show dad (grandmother, Uncle Misha) how she washes her hair also helps a lot. In general, it seems to me that kids just don’t like it when something gets on their face. And if you start with a small trickle, then gradually they get used to it.

      I can't help but brag. Four and a half years of screaming in the bathroom, washing my hair, turned into mutual torture... And yesterday, after five sessions in the pool, the child lay down in an inflatable ring on his back and threw his head back into the water. I say: let the hairs swim! He sank even deeper. Me: I wonder if your ears will hear anything if they are under water? The child, without a shadow of a doubt, lowers first one ear under the water, then the other! Only one face remained on the surface. Anyway, I washed his hair and rinsed his hair four times while he floated on his back. General delight.

      And together we “wash the hair” of indoor plants, and then immediately go to the bathroom! Everyone loves it, especially the plants.
    • 6.4.2000 22:51:13, Funtik
      At first we loved washing with this circle. Then for some reason they fell out of love. And now we just dive (we love diving very much), wet our hair, then wash it carefully, and dive in to rinse it off too. Or here’s another way: Denka applies a small towel to his eyes - and he calmly washes his hair without scandals. For some reason this towel seems like good protection to him :)

      And this is what happened to us - we went to the park, and there a swan swam very close to us and began to look for something at the bottom of the reservoir, completely lowering its head into the water. Well, I told Nastya (2 years 1 month) that he washes his hair, is not afraid of water, and does not cry. So what do you think? After this incident, only tears - I remind her about the swan and Nastya doesn’t cry anymore! :)))

      My child was screaming like crazy. I tried to wash so that water did not get on my face. But even this did not help. It was impossible to even run a wet hand over my head. I washed my hair once every two weeks. One time I decided to tell you that bugs will get in your head if you don’t wash your hair. She didn’t scare me, she just told the bugs. It may be uneducational and terrible, but the result is obvious - the child never makes a sound. One might say that now he even likes to “wash the bugs out of his head.”
    • 5.4.2000 13:45:50, Natasha S.
      And with us this happens with the help of dad - when it’s time to wash his hair, dad stands with his stomach towards his son, son buries his face into the soft belly, and at this time I quickly lather and rinse, trying to let the water flow back. Dad then changes his shirt. Everyone is terribly happy!

      And when we soap our hair, we do all sorts of hairstyles: a lion’s mane, a comb, an imp (horns). And we say not “let’s wash our hair,” but “let’s turn into... (according to circumstances).” Let's look in the mirror. If “lion” then we roar, etc. Helps so far
    • 5.4.2000 20:12:8, Maria D.
      There is such a “dry shampoo” for people who are bedridden; you pour the powder into your hair, comb it out, and it’s clean. I have no idea where to buy it in Russia :-) And short hair can be washed very rarely, it has its own fat balance that is quite normally established.
    • 5.4.2000 12:15:42, Yana Savina
      This is available in any Chicco department.
    • 5.4.2000 11:37:34, Anna K.
      I saw it at “Maria” on Leninsky Prospekt, the last time the price was 200 rubles. But in our experience, it turned out that it is better not to hold your head level with such a hat; water still leaks onto your face. It is better to raise your face up, then the water will drain without getting on your face. But how much effort did it take us to prove that this is not too old!!! They put on a hat, poured water, and through the wild scream of the child they explained that the water did not get on the face!! It took me 2 months to convince myself that washing my hair with a hat is safe... But now I don’t take it off even after washing, I say, “And now I’ll be the sun.” In general, you need to give the child this hat outside the bathroom, let him get used to it, put it on himself, understand that this is not some kind of monster, let him show off in this hat in front of the mirror..... Then it will become calmer to put it on in the bathroom.

Good afternoon, our dear readers. For many parents, the very period comes when they need to know how to wash their child’s hair. On the other hand, they say, what’s wrong with this, you wash it and that’s it. But for various reasons, a child develops a fear of washing his hair.

It’s different for everyone, some people wash their hair normally from a very young age and then everything is fine. But sometimes at the age of one or two, even three years, a fear of washing his hair appears and then the child cries, does not want to wash his hair and say a strict “no”.

Although he can calmly swim, play around in the water, play with toys, the main thing is that his head should not be touched.

We ourselves faced such a disaster with our little son. At first everything was fine, they washed their hair normally. Well, I was a little afraid, nothing terrible happened. Then water began to get into my mouth and nose. That’s when he flatly stated that he didn’t want to wash his hair; he was 2.5 years old at the time. It came to terrible screams and struggles (small children have so much strength, it’s terrible).

It was a difficult period and it turned out that many families are faced with this problem. We were able to overcome this, and we want to help other parents who are faced with this problem.

Washing your hair is a fun activity

In order to further understand how to wash a child’s hair if he is afraid, you need to understand his fears. Do not scold your child under any circumstances, this can only worsen the whole situation. You just need to acknowledge his fear. Agree that he is scared to wash his hair.

The first reason why a child is afraid is fear:

  • water gets into the eyes;
  • into the nose;
  • in the mouth;
  • afraid of choking.

Perhaps there are some other reasons. If the child is already 2-2.5 years old, then you can talk to him and understand the essence of the problem. Don’t tell your child what’s wrong or something like that. Take the child's side. He must understand that you will protect him, that you will not do anything bad.

The second reason is “myself” and boundaries. Manifestation is possible from two to three years. That is, until this time everything is fine, and then suddenly - and nothing. Complete refusal to wash your hair. At the same time, the baby can happily splash around in the bathtub for a long time, play in the water, swim, but as soon as he washes it, it’s a resounding “no.”

The third reason is a fear of water, and a sudden one. Psychologists say that this is a period of child development and begins at approximately 3 - 5 years, not for everyone, of course.

But, you can come to an agreement with the child. You can learn to wash your hair without screaming and crying, maybe even the child will want to wash his hair himself. Below we will present the options that can help you with your child. But I’ll say right away: maybe everything will work out on the very first advice, or maybe more than one piece of advice won’t work.

All children are very different and individual. First, understand the reason why the child does not want to wash his hair, and then try different methods that may suit your case.

Practical advice on what to do when a child does not want to wash his hair.

Step 1.

First of all, pay attention to the child’s well-being.

If you initially know that the child will not agree to wash his hair, do not carry out the washing process until the evening. That is, if you usually bathe your baby in the evening, then choose a separate time for washing your hair - after morning or lunchtime sleep, when the child is in the best mood and ready to play. Then it is easier to turn the washing process into a game.

And even if he gets upset, he can quickly switch to other interesting things and won’t have to calm down a cranky baby before going to bed. And in the evening - the usual swimming is a pleasure.

Talk about the need to wash your hair not at the moment when you need to wash it, but a day or two before. Come up with a short story about a girl (boy) who didn’t want to wash her hair and what came of it. Like how to wash a child's hair is useful.

If the child is over 4-5 years old, you can tell more serious options - study the structure of hair, talk about the mechanism of its pollution, etc. - my eldest loves this very much. If there is a problem, we begin to discuss it - from all sides. When understanding comes, it is easier to agree.

Step 3.

Be sure to ask the talking child about the reason for his dislike of washing his hair. Moreover, remember that he himself may not understand it, so it is better to offer options. I don’t like water in my eyes, water in my ears, it’s scary with my eyes closed, it stings, it’s unpleasant, or else watch it and think about what it could be. To determine and eliminate the cause, show attention by removing “your opinion” that all this is unimportant and just a whim, do not say the words “well, it’s not scary,” “what have you come up with,” etc.

Step 4.

Here's how to wash a child's hair if he doesn't want to wash it and can't be persuaded. After washing your hair, suggest that your son or daughter let you wash their hair. Usually the child enthusiastically awaits the moment when he can “be an adult” and also “do everything like his mother.” It is often advised to let your hair be washed before, not after, your baby.

But it doesn’t work for everyone, you need to take it into account.

Step 5.

In general, it’s a good idea to offer something interesting to do after you wash your baby’s hair. And it’s better to do something that is also connected with bathing - for example, wash the dolls, or let yourself be combed, or... your option. If your hair is not washed, there will be no game.

Step 6.

Also teach him to close his eyes tightly and pinch his ears, and then tilt his head back. It is this method that often helps to come to an agreement with the child. An important point: when the child tilts his head back, water begins to flow from his head into his eyes - this moment must be foreseen in advance and immediately give the child a towel to wipe his face.

We continue to figure out how to wash a child’s hair. While washing your hair - if you’ve already managed to persuade it, constantly comment on your actions, how you water your hair, how each strand gets wet, how you rinse your hairs, how clean they become, how the foam looks like magic lambs...

Step 8

If the reason is aversion to water in the eyes or ears, offer to cover the eyes or ears with a diaper or towel.

Step 9

And if the “on my own” period has already arrived, the first way is to offer to wash your hair yourself, but with your help. You hold the shower and help rinse your hair. The rest is up to you. Try it, it’s not uncommon for kids to compromise, saying you wash it yourself, and mom or dad only helps.

Step 10

And the last “life hack on the topic of washing your hair” is to offer new devices for watering your hair every bath (ladle, plate, glass, cup, milk bottle, baby bucket, etc.. This game quickly captivates the baby and perhaps every bath will be expected with joy, because children love surprises so much!

Devices for washing a child's hair.

In order to fully answer the question of how to wash a child’s hair, we will present you with various devices for bathing a child.

They are quite common and will help a child cope with fears, the main thing is to explain what it is and why it is needed.

After you have managed to wash your hair without getting your eyes wet, draw your baby’s attention to this: “Look, son, we washed our hair, but our eyes are dry! Isn't that great? What great fellows we are!”

We managed to wash our heads - Well done!

That's all for us. We hope our article helped you, leave your comments below, maybe even share your method. That's all for now, join us at Odnoklassniki.

A child is afraid to wash his hair - what to do and how to wash a child’s hair correctly. updated: November 11, 2019 by: Subbotina Maria

How to properly wash the hair of small children, starting from newborn age.

When a small child appears in the family, bathing and washing the baby will become a daily hygiene procedure. Particular difficulties arise when washing a baby's delicate scalp. Performing the usual procedures of soaping, rinsing and drying your hair will not be enough here. You need to know several important rules for caring for the hair of young children.

What you need to know about the structure of children's hair

The structure of a child's hair is constantly changing. Initially, the baby's head is covered with hair that looks more like fluff. But every child is individual. Some are born with thick hair, while others are born without it at all. In any case, after three months the first hair will begin to change, and intermediate hair, otherwise called “baby hair,” will grow. During this period, active hair loss is observed in the baby, especially in those areas that often come into contact with the pillow. Full hair appears in a child six months after birth, and active growth begins in the third year of life.

The next (last) stage is the appearance of adult (“terminal”) hair. “Terminal” hair grows during adolescence and has a denser structure than children’s hair. At this age, their color may completely change, for example, from light to dark. However, they require care at any age, and special attention is required in the early period of life.

Should you wash it often?

It is important to know that routinely wetting your baby's head during daily bathing does not count as shampooing. The washing procedure is accompanied by the application of shampoo, which is then washed off with water. Children's hair gets dirty more slowly than an adult's, so you don't need to wash your baby's hair with shampoo every day. Once a week is enough, or once every five days depending on the contamination. More often it is not recommended so as not to disturb the natural environment of the scalp and not to dry it out. Vellus hair can be washed with shampoo once every ten days, and the rest of the time it is enough to simply rinse it with water.

The better to wash

Adult shampoo is not suitable for washing a child’s hair, only children’s shampoo with a pH level (an indicator of acid-base balance) of 7 (pure water has this pH level). When choosing baby shampoo, you need to check that it does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate, which manufacturers often add to shampoo to create foam. This component can act on children's scalp in such a way as to cause irritation and, in some cases, allergies. Children's hair is washed the first time, so it is not necessary to apply shampoo twice.

How to wash properly?

We fill the bath with warm water (suitable temperature 36 degrees), after which we immerse the child in the water. The neck and head must be supported with the palm of your hand. With your free hand, water your hair, starting from the forehead and gradually moving to the back of your head.

Having foamed a small amount of shampoo or special gel, distribute it over the palm of your hand and run it over the baby’s head in the same direction - starting from the forehead and moving the palm towards the back of the head. To rinse your hair from shampoo, regular running water is suitable.

There is no need to actively try to dry your hair with a towel. It is enough to wet the baby’s wet hair with it, and then give the hair the opportunity to dry on its own.

Combing

It is not recommended to comb wet hair to avoid damage and loss. It is better to use a comb with bristles made from natural materials. Plastic materials damage and electrify hair. A comb is also suitable for combing, but always with blunt teeth so as not to harm the baby’s sensitive skin.

To comb long hair, you should first divide it into small strands. Each strand must be combed with smooth movements, moving from the ends of the hair to the roots. It is better to hold your hair with your hand, avoiding tension on the scalp. Sometimes a child's hair gets tangled in tangles, and the baby does not allow them to be combed. In this case, it would be better to cut them off.

Milk crusts

Often, crusts form on the skin of babies, medically called “gneiss”. Such crusts appear due to active division of scalp cells. Some of these cells die. As a result of the combination of dead cells and sebaceous glands, milk crusts are formed. You can cleanse your skin of them if you rub vegetable oil into your scalp with massaging movements before bathing. For a better effect, you can put a cap on your baby for half an hour.

Using a suitable comb, comb the baby's hair several times. The crusts separated from the skin are combed out. To completely remove crusts, repeat the procedure up to 3 times each time before bathing.

You can simply run soft bristles through children's hair for preventative purposes - to prevent milk crusts from appearing on the scalp.

Hello, dear friends, readers of the blog "". Today I want to touch on a question that worries many parents: what to do if the child does not want to wash his hair? I used to ask this question too – first with my son, then with my daughter. I kept thinking how to wash a child's hair without tears, vomiting, crying throughout the apartment.

With all this, both children really loved and love to swim, I can probably spend hours in the bathroom, splashing in the water, launching boats, fish, pouring water from one container to another, just splashing my palms in the water. They weren’t even against washing the body every day, but the head was a taboo. And seeing that, I began to think about how to solve the problem. Still, it’s not pleasant to see your beloved baby crying while washing. In the end, I found a way out. Now we wash our hair without tears and the child no longer categorically declares that he does not want to wash his hair.

Children, unlike adults, have light, thin hair, and the scalp is very sensitive. For this reason, children need to wash their hair with special shampoos that are designed specifically for babies. It is best if you constantly buy shampoo of the same brand. This way you will already know for sure that this is a proven shampoo and the child definitely does not have any reactions or allergies to it. For example, for 5 years now (since Leni was born) we have been buying washing products of only one brand.

How often to wash your child’s hair with shampoo depends on the child’s age:

  • Children under 1 year old should wash their hair with detergent 1-2 times a week. If you wash your child’s hair more often, the skin film may be damaged, which will cause dryness. To wash your hair, it is better to use mild baby shampoo rather than soap.
  • Children over 1 year of age are recommended to wash their hair 1-2 times a week with “tearless” shampoo. This will allow the baby to get used to the procedure, and he will not be afraid to wash his hair.

How to wash a child's hair

The child does not want to wash his hair and is afraid. What to do? Play!

If every time washing a child’s hair is accompanied by tears, hysterics, and screams throughout the apartment. Then try to distract your baby by turning hair washing into a fun game.

  1. Toy. Take your child's favorite toy, such as a doll, into the bath. And offer to wash her hair. Everything is like “for real” - pour water on your hair, soap it, rinse it off. We comment on all this, saying that the doll likes to wash her hair, now she will have clean, well-groomed, beautiful hair.
  2. Own example. My daughter constantly cried as soon as we talked about washing her hair - I saw that she was simply afraid to wash her hair. Then I offered her to wash my hair - my daughter agreed. Well, of course - she will wash her mother’s hair herself, her eyes shone and she quickly ran to the bathroom. I handed the shower to my daughter, turned on the warm water, leaned over the bathtub and my daughter watered my hair (I held her handle with my hand so that the water wouldn’t spill past). Then I applied shampoo to my head, and my daughter happily “soaped” my hair with her hands. Then they washed off the shampoo together and dried their hair. I made it clear to my daughter that there is nothing wrong with washing her hair, that my mother is not afraid to wash her hair and she shouldn’t. After this, my daughter became calmer about washing, well, my mother also washes her hair and doesn’t cry at all, but even rejoices and smiles.
  3. Let's draw. To prevent water from getting into the baby’s eyes, I suggested that my daughter raise her head up and look at the ceiling. But she was bored just looking at the ceiling (well, who would like that). Then, knowing that my daughter loves to draw, I squeezed a little toothpaste onto the wall of the bathtub just above her height and suggested that she draw. My daughter happily agreed and started drawing. At the same time, she had to raise her head higher, because otherwise she could not see what she was drawing there, and in the meantime I was busy washing my hair.
  4. I myself. My daughter is now in the “on my own” period and she enjoys doing everything herself. So I decided to take advantage of this. As always, we went for a swim, turned on the warm water and I suggested that my daughter wash her hair herself. The baby, of course, agreed. I handed the shower into her hands and she poured water on her hair herself (I held her hand with mine, directing the stream). Then we tried to wash our hair ourselves, having received new positive impressions, there was no time for tears.
  5. Foam crown. Another interesting game that will diversify your hair washing. Place your baby in front of the bathroom mirror and show him what interesting shapes you can make from hair and foam.

That's all the secrets on how to wash a child's hair. Now, if a child is afraid to wash his hair, you know what to do. The most important thing is patience and love. The baby will definitely outgrow this age and love washing his hair. If you have your own secrets on how to wash your child’s hair, write in the comments, it will be interesting to read.
